iTEP stands for International Test of English Proficiency.  Like the TOEFL and IELTS, it is one test used to measure a student's English ability.  

Admission status based on iTEP score

Admission Status	Minimum Required iTEP score
Full Admission	3.8
Pathway Admission	3.4

Students who score 3.8 or above meet the English language requirement for Full Admission to UM.  Students who score between 3.4 and 3.7 meet the English language requirement for Pathway Admission.

You may want to take the test if ...

you were admitted conditionally to UM and  

1. you do not have an English language test score or 
2. your English language test score did not meet the requirement for Pathway or Full Admission.

Taking the iTEP is optional.  Depending on the score you receive, taking the test may help you achieve Pathway or Full Admission status in your first semester.

The deadline to register for the exam is Monday, August 12, 2019 at 12 p.m. The Fall 2019 test will take place on Thursday, August 15, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.  Students taking the test should arrive at the UM International Center by 9 a.m. on August 15.

The cost of the test is USD $129.00.  You can pay the exam cost at the UM Business Office (Lommasson Center, 2nd Floor, room 237).

If you want to take the test, you need to reserve a space in the testing center.  Seats are limited and reservations are accepted on a first-come first-served basis.  Please email umeli@umontana.edu or complete the registration form below to reserve your space.

Students who take the test will receive their scores the next day.  If your score meets the English language requirement for full admission, you will be allowed to register for UM classes in your first semester.   If your score doesn't meet the requirement, you will simply stay in conditional or pathway status and take courses at the English Language Institute in your first semester.  Your score on the iTEP will not negatively affect your current admission status.

Taking a practice test is recommended so that you know what to expect on test day. Even if you are familiar with the TOEFL or IELTS, you may still want to prepare for the iTEP by studying some of the free test preparation materials.
