Transfer Admission
You should apply as a transfer student if you have graduated from high school or earned a GED, attended another college and attempted 12 or more college-level credits. You can transfer to UM with a minimum grade point average of 2.0. If you have attempted fewer than 12 college-level credits, you must still submit transcripts from previous schools, and satisfy the same admission requirements as new freshmen.
Transfer Application Procedures
Applying for admission as a transfer student is a two-step process:
- Apply and submit payment online of $36. Application fees are not refundable.
- Send a current official transcript from each college you've attended so that we may process your admission without delays. Then, send a complete, official transcript as soon as you complete your final term at the following address:

International Student Admission
At the University of Montana, you are considered an international student if:
- You are not a U.S. Citizen, permanent resident, member of a Jay Treaty Tribe or refugee; Or
- You are living in the U.S. under an F, B, H, J, L or M visa
