As an International freshman, here are all the steps you need to take care of to attend The University of Montana...
Apply for Admission
As an international freshman student, your first step is to apply for admission to The University of Montana. UM has rolling admissions, meaning there is no final deadline for applying for admission. Applications should be submitted at least six months prior to the semester you wish to enroll. By submitting your application early there will be plenty of time to request test results and academic records as well as apply for a visa. Many students will apply in the fall the year before they plan on enrolling (e.g. students planning on enrolling in fall 2010 will usually apply sometime in the fall of 2009, September through November). Apply now.
We Process Your Application
Once we have received all of the appropriate paperwork, including a complete application, application fee, financial statement, transcripts and official English language proficiency score report, it generally takes 2-4 weeks to process an application. Feel free to contact our International Admissions Counselor at Julie.cahill@umontana.edu to inquire about the status of your application if you have not heard back from us after 4 weeks of submitting your complete application.
Scholarships
Applying for scholarships! All international students who apply for admission will automatically be considered for our UM General Scholarships. You do NOT need to fill out a separate application to be considered for the UM General Scholarships. The scholarships, if awarded to you, can be valued from $1,000 up to $6,000 per year and are renewable for four years or until you graduate.
Housing
Once you have been accepted, the next step in your admissions process is to apply for housing. All in-coming, traditional aged freshman (18-21 years old) are required to live on campus. You are encouraged to apply for housing as soon as you are accepted, because all housing is assigned on a first-come, first-serve basis. The sooner you apply for housing the more likely you are to have your request filled. You can take a virtual tour of the residence halls and apply for housing on-line at the Residence Life website.
Submit your Health Form
All students are required to submit your Pre-registration Immunization Records. Students must submit this form before they can register for classes. You should have received this form in your acceptance packet, and you can access another copy on-line at the Curry Health Center.
Orientation
Attending an orientation is mandatory for all in-coming students. It provides you with a better understanding of The University of Montana and the services we provide—not to mention your first opportunity to register for classes. International students will attend the Foreign Student Orientation several days before the General Orientation It's a great time to experience life at UM, get to know some of your classmates, and learn about the programs available to make you a successful student at The University of Montana.
