"I came to UM with no real friends here, and was worried about how I would transition. When I got here, I was astounded by how outgoing and friendly everyone is: I was immediately accepted and welcomed. Now I'm going to graduate with friendships that'll last a lifetime."

Pre-Orientation Checklist

We are excited you have registered for Orientation at The University of Montana. We want to help make your transition to life at UM as smooth as possible, so we have created a checklist to guide you!

Immunization form

Make sure to fill out the immunization form before coming to Orientation. It must be completed before you register for classes, so it will be easier for you to get that done before coming to your Orientation.

Insurance on campus

All students must have medical insurance before they can register for classes. UM offers an insurance package through Blue Cross/Blue Shield.

Take your math assessment

All incoming freshmen (and transfer students still needing to meet their math requirement) should plan on taking the University of Montana math placement exam prior to attending and selecting classes at Orientation. Please visit the new University of Montana Math Placement webpage to learn more about the placement exam. The website will contain information about the placement exam and a link to the actual testing site, called ALEKS.

In order to register for the ALEKS exam, you'll need The University of Montana's Course Code: MAHXU XDVMA

f you have questions please contact Sharon O'Hare at sohare@mso.umt.edu or 460-243-5672.

English placement

We will use ACT, SAT and MUS scores to place students into their beginning English course at UM. Please see the table below to figure out your English class. We will offer an assessment during Orientation for students who do not have current test scores or who like to challenge their placement. This does not mean that you are automatically registered for the class; you are eligible to register for it during Orientation.

"Up With Montana" to sing at UM Grizzly games

Up with Montana, boys, down with the foe,
Good ol' Grizzlies out for a victory;
We'll shoot our backs 'round the foeman's line;
Hot time is coming now, oh, brother mine.
Up with Montana, boys, down with the foe,
Good old Grizzlies triumph today;
And the squeal of the pig will float on the air;
From the tummy of the Grizzly Bear.
