International Admission
Who is an International Student?
At the University of Montana, you are considered an international student if:
- You are not a U.S. Citizen, permanent resident, member of a Jay Treaty Tribe or refugee; Or
- You are living in the U.S. under an F, B, H, J, L or M visa
International Application Procedures
- Submit an international undergraduate application and $36 application fee ($30 for paper application).
- Submit an official English language proficiency score report.
- Submit official/certified academic records from all secondary or university education completed.
- Submit a statement of financial support that covers one year of your costs at The University of Montana.
- Submit a SEVIS Transfer Form if you are a transfer student from a U.S. university or College.
Admissions Requirements
You must meet the following admission requirements in addition to completing the international application procedures:
- An English language proficiency score showing one of the following:
- 61 iBT (173CBT/500PBT) on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL); or
- 5.5 on the International English Language Testing System (IELTS); or
- 69 on the Michigan English Language Assessment Battery (MELAB); or
- 440 on the SAT Writing Section; or
- 18 on the Combined English/Writing section of the ACT
- A minimum grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale for freshman applicants or a minimum grade point average of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale for transfer applicants. The admissions office will determine grade point average if one is not available on a student's academic record.
- A statement of financial support that verifies that $ 25,563 will be available to you to cover estimated costs for the academic year.
Conditional Admission to The University of Montana
Students who do not have the required English language proficiency for admission to The University of Montana but are academically eligible may be considered for Conditional Admission. If students are admitted conditionally, they will be required to attend the English Language Institute until they receive the appropriate TOEFL score or a recommendation from the English language Institute.
Study English at The University of Montana
