The Golden College enables Residents of Montana who are 65 years of age or older to take classes at The University of Montana at greatly reduced rates.
To be eligible for the Golden College and the Senior Citizen Tuition Waiver, you must meet all the following:
Fill out the Golden College application for admission (PDF document) and return it to Enrollment Services - Admissions with a one-time application fee of $30. Be sure to mark undergraduate or graduate non-degree unless you intend to complete a degree. You will be notified by mail of your admission.
Complete the Senior Citizen Tuition Waiver application and return it to the Financial Aid Station in Griz Central (second floor of the Lommasson Center). Please bring proof of age... a driver's licence or state ID works best. The tuition waiver does not waive all fees. Only tuition is waived.
Complete the Pre-Registration Immunization Requirements form (PDF Document) in your acceptance packet and return it to the "Curry Health Center, UM, Missoula, MT 59812." You do not need to submit proof of immunizations. Once you have been admitted and have turned in your Pre-Registration form, you should be able to register online for classes.
Before you can register, you must have an advising number. Your advising number may be obtained after admission acceptance by calling 243-6266 or in person at Enrollment Services - Admissions (in the Lommasson Center - Griz Central). Graduate non-degree students do not need an advising number to register.
Golden college students register using the Cyberbear online registration system. Instructions are available on Cyberbear. Your Cyberbear password/PIN is your 6-digit birthdate (mmddyy) until you change it (recomended).
If your class is full on the computer, we recommend that you attend the first day of class and have the instructor sign you into the class with an override slip (available at the Registration Desk in Griz Central - Lommasson Center).
Follow the instructions on the Cyberbear registration system for fee payment (the Senior Citizen Tuition Waiver only waves tuition, not fees). You will need to meet certain payment deadlines depending on when you register. You may make electronic payments using Cyberbear, or make a payment in person at Business Services in the Lommasson Center - Griz Central.
Registration for future semesters follows the same procedures except the application and Pre-Registration form are not required. A new tuition waiver application is required for each academic year.
Many Golden College participants audit courses they take. Auditing a course means you intend to observe the course without earning credit or being graded. The same fees are assessed as when registering for credit. Any attendance or participation expectations are established by the instructor of the course. If attendance expectations are not met, the instructor may request a notation be placed on the student's academic record indicating attendance was not satisfactory. Talk to your instructor for further details about course auditing.
