All new incoming University of Montana students will be automatically considered for scholarships through the UM Entering Student Scholarship Program. These scholarships are awarded based on a completed admissions application; no additional application is required. The scholarship committee will evaluate each application and award students the single scholarship that best matches their academic accomplishments.

Freshman

Non-resident Freshman Scholarships range from $8,000 - $14,000 yearly, renewable for 4 years.

If you are a resident of: AK, AZ, CA, CO, HI, ID, ND, NM, NV, OR, SD, UT, WA or WY or the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands you may be eligible for the Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE) Scholarship.

Transfer

Non-resident, non-WUE Transfer Scholarships range from $8,000 - $12,500 yearly. The number of years for which the scholarship is renewable is based on the number of transfer credits accepted by UM.

• 0-29 credits - 4 years
• 30-59 credits - 3 years
• 60+ credits - 2 years

Reconsideration

The University of Montana is committed to providing a fair and consistent scholarship process that offers students the opportunity to appeal for scholarship reconsideration. As a rule, UM scholarships are awarded based on academic merit, as measured by high school GPA or transfer GPA. The Scholarship Committee seldom deviates from the published awarding criteria. However, we recognize there are occasionally circumstances where a review is warranted, such as new test scores, a revised GPA, or unforeseen life events that may have impacted a student's performance. Elevating a student's scholarship to the next level for the purpose of accommodating "unforeseen life events" only occurs in rare cases, and only when the student's original GPA or test scores fall just immediately below the stated requirement. Reconsideration for improved GPA and/or new test scores will automatically qualify a student for a new scholarship, upon the University being notified of the student's improved status.
