The University of Montana’s College of Technology looks forward to welcoming admitted students to Griz Nation. Once admitted to the COT please follow the steps below:
Transferring Credits
To learn how your courses transfer to The University of Montana, please see UM’s Transfer Guide. The contents of this guide are subject to change at any time and course equivalencies are contingent upon the academic program and the general education requirements of The University of Montana. If a course or institution is not listed, it does not necessarily mean the course will not transfer; rather the information is not yet in our database.
You must send us your official transcripts in order to receive a personalized official transfer credit articulation.
Assessment and Placement Scores
Assessment scores in writing and math are required. To submit previous test scores, the tests must have been completed within the past three years. If you are not transferring acceptable math and English college credit, you must complete both the writing and math placement assessment. After your transcripts are evaluated, we will notify you if you have or have not met the assessment requirement.
Submit a Writing Placement Assessment
All students must satisfy a writing proficiency standard that is demonstrated with a score from ACT, SAT, Montana University System Writing Assessment, COMPASS, or COMPASS E-Write. For students who do not have a current writing placement score, the COMPASS E-Write is offered at the College of Technology. For more information on testing times offered or to register for a test, please visit the Academic Support website.
Submit a Math Placement Assessment
A math placement assessment score is required for new students prior to registering for a math class. Math assessment scores can be submitted from ACT, SAT, or ALEKS. For students who do not have a current math placement score, the ALEKS assessment is offered online for free. You will need your student ID number as well as the Course Code: K4VET-DGGQ3. For questions regarding the ALEKS, please contact the COT Academic Support Center, (406) 243-7826.
